Bad Day

March 7th, 2008 at 12:21 am

Today was not my day. It started out by me forgetting to take my lunch to work so I had to end up buying a slice of pizza while I was on the road doing a delivery.

Got to the library. Got out of the car and slipped on the ice and fell flat on my left side. Both hands were full so I couldn't even break my fall. Get into the library, and since it's Thursday and the library director works, our lights were not on. (She can't be bothered to flip on the 2 switches at the end of the row that she turns on). Marched up front and turned the lights on and told her I'd fallen. She laughed. That really made me happy. It is her responsibility to call the borough and get them out to sand. She didn't bother.

On my delivery I came around a bend and was face to face with a semi. A state truck was pulled off the road on the opposite side with it's 4-ways on so the semi had come into my lane to go around it. Thank goodness the System Jeep has good brakes!

Get to my delivery place, unload all the books and audio books onto my cart. Start up the ramp into the library and get halfway up and slip on ice. Managed to catch myself so that I and the cart didn't go sliding to the bottom.

Yes, it was an exciting day. Not one I'd care to repeat again. I hope I'm able to get out of bed tomorrow. I'm already feeling the effects of the fall.

I did have to sort of chuckle at my one delivery stop. I was checking in the books and realized that the radio station that was on was playing

The director laughed? That's terrible...did she even fill out an incident report?
    Tomorrow will be better Smile

An incident report? Ha! She was too busy playing her game of solitaire on the circulation computer. She doesn't do any more than she absolutely has to. This is not a well-managed library.

I do not work for this library, but for the System headquarters, which unfortunately, is located in the back of this library.

Ouch! Sorry to hear about your fall.

About the director - is there anyone you can privately mention this to?

I told my boss, but she has no power over the individual libraries. We are just there as consultants. I could go to her (the library director's board), but they are pretty much useless. They really don't do anything. They've been after her for years to straighten up the library and keep threatening, but never follow up. It's such a mess that a couple of winters ago my boss had a mouse run up the inside of her pant leg! It's a real fire hazard in there. The state has had complaints, but they don't do anything either.

A mouse? OMG...maybe you can file a complaint with the BBB not using your real name or something or write your local politician this is crazy

Take a warm bath and go to bed. Good riddance to this day! Ugh!

The cat pic says it all. Too cute.

Falling on ice could result in a lawsuit if it is a customer. I would think the board would think a little harder on safety issues like that. Sounds like it is just a matter of time before something like that happens.

    Hope tomorrow is much better

I used to be a librarian, and I know how loosey-goosey their management can be. Such a shame.

If that had happened to me, I would have filed my own report to someone. About 1 and 1/2 months ago, I was in a store and a sharp edge was sticking out from the bottom of the cooler bin. I reached over to pick something up and I cut my leg. It wasn't really bad but I made sure that I spoke with the manager and showed him the object. It's more to protect yourself. AS they say CYA.

I worked for an emergency room and I had to learn to document everything in case someone had a problem including co-workers. Keep a diary, list the fall, time, who you spoke to (in your case - who didn't listen), take a photo if there are bruises, and keep track of it. Falls are funny, do take care of yourself.
