Ameritrade Account

March 2nd, 2007 at 05:38 pm

I have been reading Suze Orman's new book

Text is Women & Money: Owning the Power to Control Your Destiny and Link is http://www.amazon.com/Women-Money-Owning-Control-Destiny/dp/0385519311/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-5023022-2800
Women & Money: Owning the Power to Control Your Destiny and took her advice and opened an Ameritrade money market account. She has partnered with Ameritrade to try to get women to take control of their finances.

The challenge is to direct deposit at least $50 a month for a year. At the end of that year Ameritrade will give you a $100 bonus! Not bad earnings.

So I checked on-line today and my account is open and active!

What kind of account is it and does it earn interest? Would they consider transfering money out of your account each month as a direct deposit? How is the book? Is it an easy read and does it hold your attention? Thanks for giving us the information.

It's a money market account and earns a small (.10%) interest rate if the balance is under $5,000. Someone on the forum commented that you could take the year to learn about stocks and take the money after you get the bonus and start investing.

I set the direct deposit up by having it taken from my checking account each month. That way I just need to remember to write it down on the 1st of the month.

I really like the book. It's set up to be worked through in 5 months. Each month you concentrate on a few tasks she gives you to do so that by the end of the 5 months you pretty much have your finances in order. For example, the first month concentrates on learning to balance your bank statement each month and it goes from there to beginning to invest in your retirement and getting a will and trust in place. She begins with very basic financial goals, assuming that a lot of women may not have ever taken charge of their finances before.

I read more than half of it last weekend, so yes, it held my attention. I hope to finish it this weekend.

.2% interest sounds real low... you could earn 3-5% elsewhere to make that $50 a lot sooner.

What are you going to do with the $5000 once it's there? How long will it take to get the $5000?
