Fighting Back

November 10th, 2006 at 10:28 am

According to Quicken there are no bills that I have to pay today. So hopefully today will be a no-spend day. Of course, usually just the time I think that one of the kids needs lunch money.

Today I am forcing myself to get back out and start walking in the mornings. My mother made a comment to me yesterday that really hurt my feelings. She told me that I "used to look good". I know I've gained 40 pounds over the past few months, but I can't help that my thyroid decided to go on vacation. But after thinking about it I decided I can fight back. So I'm rearranging my schedule. (I am very much a schedule person.) I'm going to get in a good power walk at least 3 mornings a week and do toning on 3 days.

So new routine is up at 5, devotions, out for a half hour walk (about 2 miles) at 6 and then back home in time to start getting kids up and around for school.

I have been exercising faithfully with taped workouts but the aerobics just doesn't do it for me like a plain old walk does. I lost the 40 pounds before with walking and toning so I will do it again. I will get the weight back off.

My first goal is to get to 170 by my birthday in January. That averages to 1.5 pounds a week.

I opened up a free account with FitDay and have started to log in my foods. I know that I have an extra challenge with the thyroid issues but I'll do my best.

You can do it! I'm in the process of relosing 30 of the 80 I lost in 2000. Sounds like you have a good plan! Congratulations!

The second line from my mother, after it is so nice to se you, is , "you need to lose that weight"! Geez ma ya think? You'll get the weight off. Walk as much as you can as many times a day as you can. I do aerobic dance at home along with walking. Thesight of me dancing would make for a good comedy tape!

You will get that weight off and we are all pulling for you!Smile

    Good Luck!

It is frustrating what hormones and thyroid can do. I gained 15 pounds overnight after my last pregnancy - I really thought it was thyroid but later concluded it was simply hormones. I dieted and exercised like crazy and was able to STOP gaining weight. But it was really frustrating I could not seem to lose any. It is such a different battle when your hormones are against you. But keep in mind that whatever you can do will help in the long run - even stopping the weight gain is a worthy goal at this point. My hormones got back to normal after a while and it dropped off. So keep working at it, maybe your throid will cooperate down the road. Hang in there!!!

Mothers have a habit of saying things like that, I've noticed... heh. At least mine does anyway Wink Fitday is great, I've had an account with them for a while. Just like finances, it's always nice to see where you're spending (your calories) or not spending! Though I guess the spending is good when it comes to losing weight! Good luck!

Yes, I've been on thyroid medicine for over 16 years now. I was on 125 mg of levothyroxine until a few months ago when my thyroid decided it didn't like that dosage and totally gave out. I gained the 40 pounds in a couple of months and was frozen to the core (just could not get warm no matter what). The thing that threw me off was that I had insomnia. Any other time I've needed a medication adjustment I've been so tired I could barely function. This time I couldn't sleep. So it took me a while to piece the symptoms together and figure out I needed a thyroid panel done.

yeah and they aren't even thinking about how you might take it... my mom is very preoccupied with that kind of stuff for some reason... today it was my hair... lol... i'm glad you took it ok even tho it hurt your feelings..
good for you for being productive... even with the thyroid working against you i would be proud just because you are making an effort and that counts.
