We're Debt- Free!!!!

July 25th, 2010 at 11:19 am

Two weeks ago we sent in our final payment on our car, making our goal of being debt-free by our final Financial Peace University class! I know that if we had not had the concrete goal we would still be paying on it. It was so nice to celebrate with everyone at our closing dinner.

We had a potluck dinner before viewing the final lesson together. My husband has a co-worker that makes cakes so we asked her to make us a credit card cake that everyone could cut a piece out of for dessert. Everyone loved it! Here's the cake:

It sort of seems anti-climatic to be debt-free now. Maybe it hasn't sunk in because I haven't had the chance to enjoy NOT writing that monthly check.

We are now started on our fully funded emergency fund. We have a little over half of a month's worth of expenses so far. I'm anxious to watch that balance grow.

Good work on the debt pay-off. What a fun way to celebrate with your FPU group! Kudos to your cake maker.

Congratulations!! That is awesome news. As Dave Ramsey, would say: How much did you pay off? And how long did it take you? Is it the $48K on your sidebar?

    Enjoy the saving!!

    Way to go!

The cake idea was perfect - cutting it up and eating it is so symbolic! Big Grin

So all your mortgages are fully paid off too?

I'm so jealous. Fantastic, and keep up the good work.

We became debt-free except for our mortgage in October of last year and I agree it was totally anticlimatic for me. But it still feels great when I actually think about it! Congratulations!

We still have our mortgage, unfortunately. That is the only debt, now though!

We paid off over $31,000 in less than 3 years. I did some of it on my own before I managed to get DH fully onboard. He was supportive before, but it really accelerated then. We also cash flowed some large expenses during that time too that isn't figured in the debt.

Wow, that is SO great! Congratulations--sounds like you worked hard on it. It's not exactly something concrete like standing on top of a mountain, so I can imagine it will feel anticlimactic. Sooo worth it though!

You really went to town, there! And congrats on taking the lead until your partner caught the vision, too. It can be done alone, but it is FAR easier when you have the insurance of both being on the same page! Well done...
