It's Expensive to Lose Weight

May 15th, 2008 at 07:51 pm

And no, I'm not talking about my $39.95 I pay to Weight Watchers every month. Of course, it won't be long and I won't have to do that though.

I am 4.6 pounds away from my official Weight Watchers goal weight so once I make that and maintain for 6 weeks, I'll be a lifetime member and will no longer have to pay unless I gain more than 2 pounds. Good motivation to keep that weight off.

The expense comes in the purchasing of new clothes. I had saved a lot of my old clothes when I got sick and began to gain weight, but I've pretty much blown right past those sizes and need smaller ones now.

I went shopping tonight because I have no dress pants to wear to the financial conference next week. I ended up with several shirts so that I have more than just a couple to choose from, a skirt and one pair of pants. I'm going to have to find at least one more pair before I go.

I must say that deal with WW is a great motivator. Regarding new clothes check out thrift store, I find suits (name brand) for $3 sometimes
    Way too go Smile

Good work! I also frequent the Goodwill - but I'm a lazy clothing minimalist and not working outside the home, so a few new pairs of jeans and I'm good to go.

Congratulations. I would say the same thing about checking out the different thrift stores. I have seen some really good looking clothes even in yard sales. (Only if they are on hangers).

Actually, you have a nice problem to have. It is a great feeling to be able to get into smaller clothes.

It is expensive to lose weight, but think of all the $$ you'll save in the long run without having to deal with weight-related health issues. A good trade, indeed.

The thrift stores are great. My wife finds me some great shirts and pants for dollars. Good stuff. Re wash or dry clean and there you have it.

PS - Great job on the weight loss. God bless.

Do you have any consignment shops in your area? When I lost weight that required me to buy all new sizes, I checked every thrift store and consignment shop in my area.

I found the consignment shops to be the best, because sometimes after shopping at the thrift stores you can walk away empty handed. Usually consignment shops are picky in what they take in so they sometimes have more current fashions and the clothing is sorted in an easier to shop way.

When you have to rebuild your clothing it can be frustrating, give it time; buy it piece by piece as you need it or find it at a thrift/consignment store and you will go far without breaking the budget.

    Good Luck.

We don't have any thrift or consignment stores within a decent distance of us. The closest one is about 2 hours away. I would gladly shop at one if we had any.

We're so rural that to get to any decent-sized city is a 2 hour drive.

That sucks, you know you can try Target they always have things on clearance and their clothing line is decent

No Target either. We do have a Walmart and a K-Mart though.
