Gasoline Prices

January 30th, 2008 at 11:38 pm

I was so glad to pull up to the pump today and see that gas was back under $3.00 a gallon again. Who would have thought a few years ago that I'd be glad to see gas at $2.93 a gallon?

I know I'll be glad to get my snow tires off in a couple of months. They've cut my miles per gallon down quite a bit.

I like the art work. It is so true. I never thought that I'd be happy paying under $3 a gallon either. I guess it's like the frog in the water. When you put the frog in the water at normal temperature and turn the heat up gradually, he'll never really realize just how hot the water is.

I work in automotive engine research, and it is common knowledge in our field that Shell has by far the best gasoline (followed by BP). While I believe it's true, I don't think it matters too much whether you buy from shell or someone else. Nevertheless, I fill up at Shell whenever I have the chance. For that reason, I pay up to a 7 cent premium on regular gas, or about 50 cents per tank ON AVERAGE.
