Today's Bill Payments

October 24th, 2006 at 10:20 am

I have 2 checks to put in the mail this morning:

phone = $46.78
cable/internet= $54.58 (just realized that I had 454.58 here!) LOL! My keyboard at home doesn't always shift when I tell it to!

Also need to get gas in my car before heading to work. That's usually around $25.

DH will also be picking up laundry detergent on his way home from work. That's costs $32.35 for a tub that lasts approximately 4-7 weeks depending on how much laundry college kids bring home.

    Are you brand conscious / environment conscious on your laundry soap?

    I just buy the biggest $1.00/2.00 box they have at the dollar store and it lasts me a good long while, probably 2 1/2 months. I wash 1 load a day and 2 on Saturday, none on Sunday (clothes for 3 adults). I use 1/8 of a cup, wash on cold everything but whites. The Hubster washes his own clothes (his choice) on Sunday (probably 2-3 loads).

    $32 just seems awfully high to me - unless someone in my household had a soap sensitivity.

    There are 4 of us that are highly allergic to the dyes and/or perfumes in laundry detergents. I've had enough uncomfortable rashes to last me a life time. LOL!

    I have a front-loader that I haven't found a cheaper brand non-allergenic detergent for. If anyone knows of one and where you can get them, I'd be glad to hear about it.

    I typically do 3-4 loads a day, every day of the week. Much better than when all 5 kids were home all the time, but still more than a most families, I'm sure.

    One way you might cut back is to simply use half of the recommended amount of soap. We do and have seen no difference in cleanliness.

    We use Bi-O-Kleen organic liquid laundry soap and my allergic family does great on it. We use only 1 tbsp of liquid per load unless its filthy, than we go with the recommended 2 tbsp. Lasts about four months and costs $9. I do about 10 loads a week. So you could probably get one to last a month.
